Foxtrot is one of the more iconic ballroom styles. Suited for large ballrooms with 1940’s style big bands, Foxtrot glides blissfully along the floor. Foxtrot earned its name from the man who originated the style, Harry Fox. Harry Fox was a vaudeville performer. When giving a solo performance in 1914 at the Jardin de Danse on the roof of the New York Theater, he began trotting about to the music. Those who witnessed it began to refer to the dance as “Fox’s trot”. Today the Foxtrot is one of the most popular of all ballroom styles and has a multitude of variants that grace many of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky’s dance floors.
